Collegiate Baseball ranked Kent State 39th in the nation in its 2017 preseason poll released on Tuesday, presented by Big League Chew bubble gum.
The Golden Flashes are coming off a 44-14 season in 2016 where they compiled the third-most wins in program history and went 20-4 in conference play to take the Mid-American Conference regular season title.
The 2017 squad will return a majority of key contributors from last season, including Collegiate Baseball Pre-Season Second Team All-American Eli Kraus in the weekend rotation. Fellow starters Connor Wollershiem and Joey Murray will vie for weekend spots. The bullpen will be bolstered by familiar faces Zach Willeman, Zach Spangler, Chris Martin, Aaron Tadian and Patrick Dayton. In the field, Sam Hurt, Reilly Hawkins, Mason Mamarella, Tim DalPorto, Josh Hollander, Pete Schuler, Dom Iero, Brad Hamilton, Luke Burch and Dylan Rosa all will add in experience. The returners will be aided by a strong contingent of new Flashes.
Kent State will begin the season February 17 with a three-game series at Belmont.
