Gymnastics Looks to Remain Unbeaten in the MAC

Kent, Ohio – The Kent State gymnastics team (5-3, 3-0 MAC) looks to remain unbeaten in the Mid-American Conference this season as they host Bowling Green (4-7, 0-2 MAC) Sunday, Feb. 21 at 1:00 p.m. in the M.A.C. Center.

The Golden Flashes are coming off a second place finish in Ball State's Think Pink quad-meet with Lindenwood and Kentucky, in which they scored 194.625 as a team. The Flashes posted scores of 48.575 (vault), 48.70 (bars), 48.225 (beam), 49.075 (floor).
Freshman Kennedy Plude set personal records on vault and beam with scores of 9.775 and 9.85, placing second in each event. Brooke Timko turned in a score of 9.75 on vault, taking fifth overall.
Sophomore Rachel Stypinksi came away with victories on floor and beam, scoring 9.9 and 9.875, respectively. Finishing in fourth on beam with a score of 9.825 was sophomore Ali Marrero, who also had the highest score on bars for the Flashes with another 9.825.
Bowling Green
The Falcons last competed on Feb. 13 in a tri meet with Eastern Michigan and Southeast Missouri State. The Falcons posted a team score of 194.425, finishing ahead of SEMO (192.800) but behind Eastern (196.600).
Alyssa Nocella was the top finisher in the all-around competition with a total score of 39.325. Nocella scored a 9.9 on bars taking first overall and tied for third on vault with a 9.825. Sophomore Laura Mitchell also scored a 9.9, tying for second on beam.
The Match-Up
Kent State holds a commanding 73-20 all-time record against Bowling Green. In last year's regular season competition, the Falcons got the better of the Flashes with a score of 195.700-195.050.
Brooke Timko tied for first on vault with a score of 9.85 and on bars, tied for second with Michaela Romito with a 9.825.
Senior Nicolle Eastman had a busy day, tying for second on beam, 9.8, and tying for fifth on both vault and floor with scores of 9.8 and 9.75, respectively.
Rachel Stypinski competed on beam and floor, picking up victories in each event with scores of 9.875 and 9.775.

After hosting Bowling Green this weekend, the Golden Flashes travel to Mount Pleasant, Mich. on Sunday, Feb. 28 to take on the Central Michigan Chippewas.
