Flashes Down the Chippewas 195.325-194.550; Remain Undefeated in the MAC

Mount Pleasant, Mich. – The Kent State gymnastics team defeated the Central Michigan Chippewas (11-2, 3-1 MAC) 195.325-194.550 in Mount Pleasant, Mich. on Sunday, Feb. 28. The Golden Flashes improve to 5-0 in the Mid-American Conference and 7-3 overall this season.
The Golden Flashes posted scores of 48.625 (vault), 48.775 (bars), 48.875 (floor), and 49.050 (floor).
Kent State started out the night on the uneven bars, led by sophomore Michaela Romito's season-high of 9.825, good enough for fourth place. In spots five through seven, respectively, was Rachel Stypinski (9.775), Skyelee Lamano (9.75), and Sarah Lippowitsch (9.725).
Sophomore Brooke Timko was the top finisher on vault for the Flashes, taking fourth with a score of 9.75. Nicolle Eastman, Jordan Hardison, and Skyelee Lamano each scored 9.725, tying with Taylor Bolender and Katy Clements of CMU for fifth.
In the third rotation of the night, the Golden Flashes competed on floor, with sophomore Rachel Stypinski tying with Bolender of CMU for the top spot, each with a 9.9. Jordan Hardison scored a 9.85, tying for third, followed by Nicolle Eastman (9.8) in a tie for fifth and Samantha Gordon (9.775) in seventh.
On beam, Stypinski was once again the top overall finisher with a score of 9.825. Ali Marrero, Kennedy Plude, Brooke Timko, and Kasey Janowicz of Central tied for second, each scoring 9.775. Milena Fabry posted a 9.725, followed Nicolle Eastman with a 9.675.
The Chippewas posted scores of 48.850 (vault), 48.500 (bars), 48.650 (beam), 48.550 (floor). Kasey Janowicz was the top competitor in the all-around with scores of 9.85 (vault), 9.875 (bars), 9.775 (beam), and 9.65 (floor), brining her total score to 39.150.
Up next, the Golden Flashes host Eastern Michigan on Friday, March 4 in their Flip for the Cure meet in the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center.
