Last Time Out
Due to rainy conditions in Seattle, Kent State was only able to play three official games of its five scheduled at the Husky Classic. The Golden Flashes and Bradley were not destined to, as Friday's game was rained out and Sunday's game was called with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning due to a drop-dead time for travel arrangements. The Flashes held a 9-4 lead in the contest, which featured multiple rain delays.
In games that were completed, Kent State defeated Montana, 2-0, and fell twice to #8/7 Washington, 11-0 in five innings and 8-1.
The Flashes had a losing weekend (1-2) and were outscored (19-3) for the first time this season. Shelbi Tilton led the offense with three hits, including a double. Michele Duffy and Holly Speers added two hits each. Janel Hayes earned the lone victory on the weekend and recorded a 3.00 ERA over 11.2 innings.
Home Run Queen
Junior Maddy Grimm became Kent State's all-time home run leader at the Red & Black Classic after hitting four round-trippers to increase her career total to 38. Grimm started the weekend with two homers on Friday to tie the previous record held by Jessica Carmichael (2008-11) and Jamie Fitzpatrick (2005-08) as the Flashes took down host Louisville. The record-setting blast came in the bottom of the fifth inning Sunday against North Dakota State. Grimm added a solo shot in the weekend finale against Louisville.
On Deck for the Flashes
Kent State will stay in Florida for a midweek contest at UCF at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
