SEATTLE, Wash. – The Kent State softball team lost to #8/7 Washington, 8-1, to on Sunday conclude a rainy weekend at the Husky Classic.
The Golden Flashes (13-5) looked to be headed for a victory earlier in the day, but their game against Bradley was unable to be completed by the noon local drop dead time. A nine-run onslaught in the top of the fourth inning gave Kent State a 9-1 lead. Bradley cut into its deficit to 9-4 with three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Prior to the start of the fifth, the game was called when it started pouring. The game featured two previous rain delays, which prevented the five innings required for an official game from being played.
Arika Roush hit her first home run of the season in the top of the third inning to tie the game against Washington, 1-1. The Huskies answered with five runs in the bottom half of the inning and added one run in the fourth and sixth innings.
Kent State was outhit, 12-2. Shelbi Tilton provided the other hit for the Flashes.
Janel Hayes (4-4) allowed five earned runs in six innings in the circle for Kent State. Hayes had one walk and one hit batter to go with two strikeouts.
Kent State will take next weekend off and then return to action at the Michele Smith Invitational at Clearwater March 18-20. The Flashes will play five games in the tournament, which is hosted by South Florida.
