
Barnes and Jagers Sweep MAC Track and Field Athlete of the Week Awards

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Kent State's William Barnes and Reggie Jagers III were each named a Mid American Conference Athlete of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday April 12th.
For Barnes, it is his third MAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week award of 2016, the previous two coming during the indoor season. At the Hilltopper Relays in Bowling Green, Ky. this past weekend, Barnes ran away with the 110m hurdles title, finishing well-ahead of the competition with a time of 13.68. Barnes' time is the fastest in the MAC this season and puts him in a tie for the 8th-fastest time in the country. Barnes also ran in the 4x100m relay, aiding the Golden Flashes to 2nd place finish with a time of 40.84.
Jagers garnered the MAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week honor after securing victories in the hammer throw and the discus at the Hilltopper Relays. In the hammer throw, Jagers captured the top spot with a personal-best mark of 61.39m (201' 5"), putting him 2nd in the MAC this season. In the discus, Jagers posted a season-best mark of 57.58m (188' 11"), which ranks 16th in the nation and 3rd in the MAC this season. In three competitions this season, Jagers has accumulated three discus titles and two hammer throw titles.
The Golden Flashes stay local this weekend as they head to rival Akron April 15-16 for the Northeast Ohio Quad.
