More good news continued to come in on Kent State's Academic Progress Reports this week. Â Following last week's NCAA recognition of five Golden Flashes' teams, detailed scores were released, proving that Kent State stands out among Mid-American Conference institutions.
Of Kent State's 16 teams scored, 11 earned perfect APRs of 1,000 for the 2014-15 academic year. Fourteen of those teams maintained or improved on their single-year APRs from last year. Every team stayed well above the 930 mark, which makes a program subject to NCAA penalties.
In multiyear ratings, five Kent State teams (baseball, women's cross country, women's golf, gymnastics, volleyball) ranked No. 1 in the MAC, including four with perfect scores of 1,000. Nine of 16 teams ranked in the top third of the conference, including women's basketball at No. 2. Eleven programs ranked in the top half of the MAC.  Â
"A main component of the mission of Kent State Athletics is to graduate student-athletes," said Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Academic Services Angie Hull. Â "The recent APR data supports that the mission is being achieved. Â Our student-athletes thrive in a family environment of coaches, academic staff and administration supporting them to reach their academic goals."
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship.  The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.
The Flashes' APR recognition comes on the heels of another record-breaking fall semester that set new standards for department term (3.242) and cumulative (3.230) grade point averages.
