Squandered Opportunities Result in 5-2 Loss

KENT, Ohio – Kent State (32-11, 13-4) had plenty of opportunities to score runs on Saturday but could not seem to get the job done with bases loaded as Miami (21-21, 10-4) escaped with a 5-2 win.
Bases were loaded with one out in the 3rd, with two outs in the 4th, with two outs in the 5th, with no outs in the 6th and with one out in the 9th, but the Golden Flashes were only able to score one run in those situations, by way of a walk in the 4th.
The other Kent State tally came when Luke Burch doubled and scored on a groundout in the 8th.
The RedHawks scored two in the 2nd on base hits and scored a run each in the 4th, 5th and 6th frames.
Andy Ravel suffered the loss as the starter. He went 5.0 innings with nine hits, four runs, one walk and seven strikeouts. Chris Martin threw 1.1 innings with one run, two hits, two walks and one strikeout. John Schreiber pitched well in the final 2.2 innings as he allowed two hits and struck out three.
Burch continued to be a tough out as he went 3-for-4 with a double, RBI, walk and run scored. Tim DalPorto contributed with two hits in three at-bats and two walks.
The series rubber match will be played on Sunday at 1 p.m.
