ATHENS, Ohio – A quick turnarnound after grinding out a series-clinching victory at Northern Illinois on Sunday was not kind to Kent State (22-12, 5-3 MAC), which lost both games of a road doubleheader to Ohio on Tuesday afternoon.

Both teams hit three home runs on the day. Freshman Bailey Brownfield, sophomore Holly Speers and senior Erika Warren launched solo shots for the Golden Flashes, while two of the Bobcats' three home runs were of the three-run variety.

Game 1: Ohio 4, Kent State 1
A big fourth inning propelled Ohio to a 4-1 victory. Infield singles by the first two batters of the frame got things started for the Bobcats. A bloop double that just caught the chalk down the right field line made it a 1-0 game. Morgan Geno then provided the exclamation mark with a three-run bomb to center field.

Bailey Brownfield provided Kent State with its only run of the game with a solo shot to start the top of the fifth.

Despite only one hit, the Golden Flashes had more runners left on base than the Bobcats, 3-2. Brownfield was the only Kent State player to reach base twice, as she was hit by a pitch in her first plate appearance. Michele Duffy and Vanessa Scoarste drew walks.

Ronnie Ladines (13-3) allowed four runs on seven hits in six inning for the Flashes.

Game 2: Ohio 4, Kent State 2
A three-run homer off the bat of Casie Hutchinson gave Ohio an early 3-0 in the second inning.

Holly Speers cut into the deficit with a solo shot to center field in Kent State's next trip to the plate.

However, Ohio's Mikayla Cooper answered with a solo blast of her own to lead off the bottom of the third inning and make it a 4-1 game.

Erika Warren added a solo homer in the seventh inning.

Janel Hayes (8-9) started in the circle for the Golden Flashes and allowed four runs on five hits in two innings. Ronnie Ladines tossed four scoreless innings in relief and allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out seven batters.

Kent State returns to the Diamond at Dix this weekend to host Eastern Michigan in a three-game series. First pitch of a single game on Friday is scheduled for 3 p.m. and a doubleheader on Saturday is slated for 1 p.m.
