For the third week in a row Kent State has swept the Mid-American Conference East Division Player and Pitcher of the Week awards, as announced by the conference office on Monday. Luke Burch and Joey Murray received the honor for their performances in the team's last four games.
Burch hit .667 this week with a double, triple and .684 on-base percentage. He continued to be a menace at the top of the order for the Flashes, grabbing three hits in each of the four games and scoring nearly a third of the team's runs. He led the team in batting average, hits, total bases, and on-base percentage. At Penn State on Wednesday Burch went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and a stolen base. In the opener with Miami, he got another three hits and scored two more runs. Burch walked and had an RBI to go along with his three hits on Saturday. In the finale, he helped Kent State earn the series win as he led off the game with a triple and scored the first run of the contest. He is now batting .375 on the season and .434 in conference play.
Murray put forth an outstanding start on Wednesday at Penn State to help lead the team to a 6-2 road victory. He went 7.0 shutout innings with four hits and one walk while striking out nine batters. The walk was the only free base he allowed, as he also did not have a wild pitch. The win was the first in Murray's young career.
The Golden Flashes have no games during the week but return to action at home this weekend in a MAC series with Buffalo.
