
Softball Signee Madi Huck Named Ohio Gatorade Softball Player of the Year

CHICAGO, Ill. โ Kent State softball signee Madi Huck (Delaware, Ohio) was honored as the 2016 Ohio Gatorade Softball Player of the Year earlier this month.
The award recognizes a high school student-athlete who demonstrates high academic achievement and exemplary personal character in addition to excelling on the competition field.ย
The 5-foot-9 senior right-handed pitcher's dominance in the circle this past season was highlighted by six no-hitters, as she posted a 23-1 record with a 0.50 ERA, 230 strikeouts and just 27 walks in 140 innings for Delaware Hayes. Huck led the Pacers to a 23-1 and the No. 1 ranking in the Division I state poll for most of the season.
A proven hitter, she batted .556 with 13 home runs and 51 RBIs in her senior campaign. Huck was named All-Ohio First Team for the second year in a row and also earned second team honors as a sophomore.
A standout in the classroom, she maintained a 4.01 GPA and was a member of the yearbook staff and a contributing writer for the school newspaper. Sheย alsoย volunteered as a tutor for students with special needs and hasย served asย a youth softball coach.
Huck will look to make an immediate impact, both with her arm and bat, during the 2017 season as a member of an eight-player freshman class. Fellow signees Vanessa Vodan (Berea, Ohio) and Maria Cegledy (Pataskala, Ohio) also earned All-Ohio honors recently. Vodan earned first team honors in Division I, whole Cegledy was a second team selection in Division II.
