Sophomore Casey Sparkman (Massillon, Ohio) was Kent State's lone winner Sunday as Ohio stung the Golden Flashes 43-2. Â It was the Bobcats first win at the M.A.C. Center since 2005.
"As a team, we feel embarrassed right now," Head Coach Jim Andrassy said. "We came in thinking we had a chance to win this dual."
Sparkman scored a first period takedown in a 3-2 decision over Cullen Cummings. Sparkman broke the 2-2 with an escape in the third and fought off a pair of late attacks from Cummings.
Junior Jairod James led his opponent Arsen Ashughyan 6-4 as the third period buzzer sounded. But James was called for a flagrant misconduct, causing a 10-point team swing on the disqualification.
The Bobcats also got a nine-point swing at 197, when Bailey Foust pinned Stephen Suglio in the final minute. Suglio jumped out to 6-2 lead after two periods with a pair of takedowns and a two-point tilt. Foust started the third from the top position and worked a power half from the left side.
The Flashes also had an opportunity at 149, but Kade Kowalski rode out Tim Rooney in the third for a match-deciding riding time point. Rooney led 2-1 after one period and never surrendered a takedown in a 3-2 loss.
Kent State continues its homestand Friday, hosting Northern Illinois at the M.A.C. Center, beginning at 7 p.m.
