Flash Facts |
- The Kent State University men's basketball team will look to start a new streak of wins this week, heading to DeKalb, Illinois for a second matchup against Northern Illinois.
- The Golden Flashes are fresh off playing in front of their best home crowd of the season and first sell out of a non-Akron game since 2011. Against Toledo, the Flashes put on a defensive showcase for the fans while scoring 85 points on 65 possessions. It was the most efficient offensive performance for Kent State since scoring 100 points on Niagara. The strong all around showing resulted in an 85-61 victory.
- Back in the win column, the Flashes will look to make up for a disappointing loss two weeks from the day. On Jan. 10, the Flashes were taken down at home by Northern Illinois, 74-70, in overtime. Kent State led for a majority of the contest and did not trail until the overtime period.
- Following this trip to the MAC West, the Flashes will return home to face Central Michigan on Saturday. The game was recently moved to noon to accommodate CBS Sports Network.
- This will be the 54th matchup between Northern Illinois and Kent State. The Flashes hold a 34-19 advantage over NIU.
- Recently, the series has proven to be a compelling one for fans. The last four straight games between the two schools have been decided by a possession or have gone to overtime. The four game set has been split down the middle, 2-2.
- NIU defeated Kent State earlier this season in the second victory in a four-game winning streak. The win was followed by victories over Bowling Green and Miami. The streak was stopped at home this weekend against Ohio, 78-69.
- Mark Montgomery is in year six at NIU, previously serving as Associate Head Coach at Michigan State.
