Flash Facts |
- The Kent State University men's basketball team will play its first road Mid-American Conference game of the 2016-17 season against Ohio Friday.
- The Golden Flashes have won five of their last seven games, including a win at Texas, 63-58, and most recently a home win over Ball State, 100-90.
- Tuesday's win over Ball State was a record-setting effort. The Flashes went 31-for-31 from the free throw line, a program and MAC record for most free throws made without a miss. The previous record for the program was 13, set earlier this year, and the MAC record was 25. 31 free throws was three short of the NCAA record.
- The win also marked the third time this season that Kent State has reached 100 points in a game, a first in over 50 years.
- Following Friday night's game, the Flashes will come home to face Northern Illinois on Jan. 10 at 7 p.m., which will be the team's last home game before the semester begins.
- This is the 142nd matchup in the all-time series against Ohio. Kent State has 48 wins against the Bobcats, over half of which have come since 1999.
- Kent State has had Ohio's number in recent years, winning four of the last five matchups. Last year, the season series was split 1-1, with each team winning its home game.
- Ohio enters the game 9-3 overall and 1-0 in MAC play. The Bobcats started league play with a home win over Western Michigan, 89-58. Ohio has also earned victories this season over Georgia Tech and Cleveland State.
- Ohio is coached by Saul Phillips in his third year at the institution. He previously coached at North Dakota State, where he led the Bisons to two NCAA Tournament berths.
