- The Kent State University men's basketball team returns to the M.A.C. Center Tuesday to face Northern Illinois for the first of two matchups against the Huskies this month.
- The Golden Flashes, winners of five of their last eight games, enter the third game of Mid-American Conference play at 1-1. The win came one week ago over Ball State at home, 100-90. The Flashes dropped their first road game against Ohio, 85-67. The road game in league play was a first for much of the young Flash roster.
- Tuesday's win over Ball State was a record-setting effort. The Flashes went 31-for-31 from the free throw line, a program and MAC record for most free throws made without a miss. The previous record for the program was 13, set earlier this year, and the MAC record was 25. 31 free throws was three short of the NCAA record.
- In both games, the Flashes played an up tempo style, reaching 80 possessions in back-to-back games for the first time this century.
- Being home has proven to be a big advantage in MAC play this season. Of the 12 conference games played, 10 home teams have won. The MAC has the second highest home winning percentage in all of NCAA.
- This will be the 53rd matchup between Northern Illinois and Kent State. The Flashes hold a 34-18 advantage over NIU, and a 19-6 record at home.
- Last season, Kent State won a tight game at home, 75-74. Current graduate assistant Galal Cancer made a pair of free throws with 7.5 seconds left to win the game.
- Northern Illinois has won five of their last six games entering Tuesday, including a MAC win over Central Michigan Saturday.
- Mark Montgomery is in year six at NIU, previously serving as Associate Head Coach at Michigan State.
