- The Kent State University men's basketball team will look to start the season 3-0 Sunday in the first game of the Savannah Invitational against the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils.
- The game begins the four game tournament for the Golden Flashes, with the first two games taking place in the M.A.C. Center. Kent State will take on Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday, take a brief Thanksgiving break, then face Valparaiso and Loyola Chicago on back-to-back days in Savannah Nov. 24-25.
Kent State is coming off back-to-back victories, first over Youngstown State, 111-78, on a neutral court. It was the most efficient offensive night against a Division I opponent in over a decade. The Flashes followed up most recently with a 90-45 win over Ohio Christian in the home debut.
- On Thursday against Ohio Christian, Kent State won with production across the box score. Four players scored in double figures, while nine players scored at least seven points. Jaylin Walker teed the Flashes up to start, scoring 11 of his 13 points in the first five minutes of the game. That set up a double digit lead and allowed the rest of the team to get in quality work without the opposition threatening.
- Kent State is 1-0 all time against MVSU, defeating the Delta Devils last season at home, 93-63.
- In last year's home opener, Jimmy Hall led the Golden Flashes in points and rebounds with 23 and nine respectively. Jaylin Walker scored 14 points, while Kevin Zabo came off the bench to lead the team in assists with six.
- MVSU is 0-3 to start the year, falling in Utah to BYU, Utah and Utah State on their first road trip.
- Dante Scott leads the Delta Devils at 8.7 points per game and is the only player to start all year.
- Andre Payne is in his fourth season with the Delta Devils. He previously coached at Texas College and Wiley College, both of whom compete in the NAIA.
