KENT, Ohio - The Kent State University men's basketball team takes on Norfolk State Wednesday to ends its 3-game road trip in an 8 p.m. tipoff.

- The Kent State University men's basketball team will play its first true road game against the Norfolk State Spartans Wednesday at 8 p.m. in Norfolk, Va.
- Kent State is coming off the Savannah Invitational, in which the Golden Flashes went 1-3. The Flashes opened the tournament with an 80-67 home victory over - Mississippi Valley State on Nov. 19 and followed with a home upset loss against Southeastern Louisiana, 70-66. On the trip to Savannah, Kent State dropped games against two top-100 ranked teams, Valparaiso and Loyola Chicago.
- Kent State measured itself against talented mid major competition. Both Valparaiso and Loyola Chicago would be favorites in the MAC according to ESPN's BPI and KenPom.com.
- Kent State will continue to test itself over the coming weeks. After its first true road game Wednesday, Kent State will face Cleveland State at home, followed by road games at No. 21 Xavier and Wright State. Following finals week, Kent State hosts Northeastern and Oregon State. Nonconference play ends with a game at top-100 ranked Albany.
- Kent State and Norfolk State will be meeting for the second time in program history. The first meeting came on Jan. 4, 2010 in the M.A.C. Center. The Flashes took the victory, 84-66.
- NSU enters the game at 0-6. They've fallen to tough competition such as Auburn and Grand Canyon. Most recently, NSU lost on the road against Arkansas Little Rock, 70-55.
- Steven Whitley is the go-to guy for NSU, averaging a team-best 12 points per game. He also leads the team in rebounds, assists and steals.
- Robert Jones is in year five as the head coach at NSU but has been with the program for 11 years.
