- The Kent State University men's basketball team will finish its non-conference schedule Thursday on the road, facing the Albany Great Danes at 7 p.m.
- The Golden Flashes are looking to end their non-conference slate with a winning record, fresh off the program's best win of the season at home against Oregon State, 79-78.
- The final score was not indicative of the win for Kent State, which held a commanding lead heading into the final minute of play. However, the Beavers made their last five shots, including four 3-pointers, to make the final possessions count. Kent State led by four points going into the last play, a buzzer-beater 3-pointer by Oregon State that was counted by the referees.
- The win was the program's second over a Power 5 team in as many years, and the fourth for Kent State under head coach Rob Senderoff.
- The Flashes will look to build momentum heading into the grueling Mid-American Conference schedule. MAC play begins on Jan. 2 at Northern Illinois, and continues with the first home MAC contest against Central Michigan on Jan. 6. Kent State will play three of its first five MAC games at home.
- This is the first game ever between Kent State and Albany. The game marks a homecoming for coach Senderoff, who earned his undergraduate degree in 1995 at the institution.
- Albany enters the game winners of five of their last seven, with the two losses coming at Memphis, 67-58, and at Louisville, 70-68. The Great Danes nearly pulled off the upset of the Cardinals, leading by three points in the final three minutes.
- Kent State will be looking to give Albany its first home loss, as the Great Danes are 7-0 inside SEFCU Arena.
- Albany is led by Will Brown, who's coached the program since 2001.
