Annual Blue-Gold Meet Kicks off Gymnastics Season

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State gymnastics team hosted the annual Blue-Gold exhibition meet Saturday at the M.A.C. Center. The Flashes had 17 gymnasts compete, with three participating in their first collegiate meet. The Gold team edged the Blue team by a score of 117.825-117.525.
"Overall, I am pretty pleased with how the team competed. I think our confidence and conditioning were pretty good for this point of the season," head coach Brice Biggin said.
Individually for Gold, senior Rachel Stypinski led the team, while high scores from junior Dara Williams stood out as well. Stypinski finished with top scores on floor (9.975), beam (9.900) and bars (9.850) for the Gold team. Williams posted a score of 9.925 on vault and a 9.825 on bars to help solidify the victory.
For Blue, standout scores came from senior Brooke Timko and freshmen Abby Fletcher and Nasha Manitkul-Davis. Timko tied for first on bars with a score of 9.850, while Fletcher was second on floor finishing with a 9.950. Manitkul-Davis finished the meet as the only all-around competitor, posting a total score of 38.575 with her strongest score on floor (9.875).
"Our freshman group did a really nice job today filling in some spots where we really needed them. Our seniors also performed well. We just need to stay hungry and focused all year," added Biggin.
Kent State is set to open the 2018 season with a home meet at the M.A.C. Center on Sunday, January 14 at 1 p.m. against Centenary College.
