On the brink of its 2017 spring football season, Kent State recently announced the hiring of Joe Tresey as its cornerbacks coach. Tresey brings over 30 years of coaching experience, including two stops in the Mid-American Conference as a defensive coordinator.
"We're very pleased to have Coach Tresey with us," Head Coach Paul Haynes said. "I've known him for a long time from working camps together. He brings a wealth of knowledge and a ton of experience. He has the same vision that we have in building men and he's nurtured a lot of young men over the years."
Since 1995, Tresey has served as a defensive coordinator at the college level for 15 seasons, most recently at Youngstown State. He also called the defensive shots at UCLA, South Florida, Cincinnati, Central Michigan and Akron.
Tresey is also a veteran at the high school level and recently served as athletic director at Clear Fork. His high school experience includes nine seasons as a head coach, including three years at Fredericktown, where he earned UPI Ohio Division IV Coach of the Year honors.
Bringing a wide array of experience, Tresey also coached defensive backs for the Omaha Nighthawks of the United Football League in 2010.
A native of Warren, Ohio, Tresey earned a bachelor's degree from Ohio State in 1982 and master's degree from Ashland in 1997.
The Golden Flashes will embark on their first of 15 spring football practices Wednesday, March 1.
