- The Kent State University men's basketball team will finish its mini road trip Saturday with the first of two games against Miami on ESPN3.
- The Golden Flashes and RedHawks are facing off twice in a two-week period. The RedHawks will make their trip to the M.A.C. Center on Feb. 14.
- The Flashes are winners of three games over the past four outings. The recent run started when the school debuted its #Unleash campaign against Toledo, with the Flashes taking a commanding 85-61 victory.
- Kent State then earned a win back on the road against Northern Illinois, 73-66. The lone loss came in overtime against Central Michigan.
- Most recently, the Flashes went up to Ypsilanti, Michigan to take on the MAC West-contending Eastern Michigan Eagles. The Flashes pulled down 59.5 percent of available offensive rebounds, a high this year, and won, 70-64. Kent State sealed the game at the free throw line, making eight straight down the stretch.
- This will be the 140th meeting between Kent State and Miami, in a series dating back to 1948. The Flashes hold 49 wins against the RedHawks, as Miami controlled the series prior to the turn of the century. Since 2000, Kent State is 22-14 against Miami.
- Over the last two seasons, the MAC East foes have split the series, with each team winning at home. The Flashes' last win in Oxford, Ohio came on Feb. 19, 2014. Kris Brewer shot 7-for-7 from 3-point range that night and scored 28 points.
- Miami is 9-13 on the season, with their most recent win coming at home against Buffalo on Jan. 24, 74-74. They have given teams fits this year, taking UCF to overtime and playing Akron to a four-point game.
- John Cooper is in year five with Miami, with his first head coaching stop coming at Tennessee State.
