No. 14 Men's Golf Finishes Second at General Hackler Championship

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The No. 14 Kent State men's golf team finished the first two rounds of the General Hackler Championship in second place, shooting a two-round score of 571 (285-286). UPDATE: Due to inclement weather, the tournament was shortened to 36 holes. Kent State finishes as a tournament runner up. The results to follow are final.
Entering the final day of the tournament, Kent State is one of three teams under par. The Flashes currently lead No. 9 LSU by two strokes, and the rest of the field by 13 strokes or more. Leaders No. 15 Wake Forest are ahead by 10 strokes.
Ian Holt is in the running for another tournament victory as he continues to roll. Holt is currently second overall at 8-under par 136. He is one of eight players under par in the entire field. He shot a 68 in both rounds.
Also in the top-10 is Gisli Sveinbergsson, who is in ninth overall at an even par 144. The nationally ranked sophomore shot a 74 to open the tournament, and improved to a 2-under par 70 in round two. Two strokes behind him in a tie for 19th place is Josh Whalen. The senior shot a 146, scoring a 72 in the first round and a 74 in the second.
All five of Kent State's competitors are currently in the top-30, with Chase Johnson and Bjarki Petursson bringing up the rear. The duo currently are tied for 28th at 3-over par 147. Johnson shot even par in the first round and a 75 in the second. Petursson registered a 73, followed by a 74.
