Flashes Strike First, Fall to No. 15 Michigan

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kent State dropped its fourth game of the season to a ranked opponent by three runs or fewer on Sunday in a 5-2 loss to No. 15 Michigan on the final day of the John Cropp Classic.
The Golden Flashes (8-10) led 1-0 in the fourth inning after senior Maddy Grimm ripped a double to right field that scored junior Vanessa Scoarste, who reached on an error that allowed her to go to second base to start the frame.
Senior Ronnie Ladines (3-5) had trouble with her command in the bottom of the fourth, and it cost her three runs. After allowing a leadoff double, Ladines issued four consecutive free passes with two walks and two hit batters to put the Wolverines ahead, 2-1. A groundout to the right side of the field that brought in another run, followed by another walk, ended her day in the circle. Ladines finished with two strikeouts in 3.2 innings.
Senior Janel Hayes got the final out of the fourth and pitched the final 2.1 innings. Hayes allowed two runs in the fifth and recorded one strikeout.
Kent State get a few more chances to take down No. 15 Michigan again next weekend when it travels to Ann Arbor for three games on Saturday and Sunday. All three games will be stream on BTN Plus.
