Kent State Ready for MAC Gymnastics Championships Saturday on ESPN3

Kent State will make its second trip to Bowling Green this month for the 2017 Mid-American Conference Gymnastics Championships on Saturday. Competition is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. inside of the Stroh Center.
The Golden Flashes have showed improvement throughout the season, posting their top four scores in the last four competitions to secure their ninth NCAA Regional bid in the last 10 years with a Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) of 19.5720 that is tied for 28th in the country. Kent State owns the second-best RQS and overall average (195.103) in the Mid-American Conference.

LAST TIME OUT
Kent State posted its best score since March 8, 2015 on to beat Ball State, 196.425-195.000, last Friday at the M.A.C. Center. The Flashes scored a 49.250 on beam, which ties for the fifth-highest mark in program history, and also had a season-best 49.200 on bars, while scoring 49.175 on floor and 48.800 on vault to win all four events.
Senior Jordan Hardison and junior Rachel Stypinski both won a pair of individual titles. Hardison won floor with a season-best 9.925 and took first on vault with a 9.825. Stypinski tied for the fifth-highest beam score in program history as she matched her career-high of 9.950. She also won bars with a 9.900.
The Flashes had four of the top five competitors on floor. Senior Skyelee Lamano was right behind Hardison with a season-high 9.875. Freshman Jade Brown and sophomore Alyssa Quinlan tied for fourth with a 9.800.
Junior Brooke Timko matched her career-high in two of her three events. Timko scored a 9.875 for second on bars and earned a 9.850 to tie for third on beam.
Sophomore Dara Williams tied for second on vault with a 9.775 and matched her career-high of 9.825 to take third on bars.
TRIO EARNS ALL-MAC HONORS
Junior Rachel Stypinski, seniors Jordan Hardison and senior Skyelee Lamano were named to the All-Mid-American Conference Teams on Wednesday. Stypinski earned first team honors for the third consecutive year. Hardison was named to the second team for the second straight year, while it was the first all-conference recognition for Lamano.
The Golden Flashes' three honorees are the most in the conference. All three are part of Kent State's floor exercise lineup that is No. 16 in the country with a RQS of 49.125.
Stypinski owns the conference's highest RQS for all-around (39.065), floor (9.930) and beam (9.910). She ranks ninth in the country on floor and 11th on beam. Her all-around score of 39.525 vs. Western Michigan on January 20 is tied for the fourth-highest mark in Kent State history. Stypinski has posted top-10 program scores on floor (9.975) and beam (9.950, twice).
Hardison has a 9.840 RQS on vault that ranks third in the MAC. In six conference meets, she took first three times with two second-place finishes. Her RQS of 9.850 on floor ranks fourth in the conference.
Lamano is third in the conference with a 9.860 RQS on floor. She has scored a 9.800 or higher on floor in eight of nine meets.
