The Mid-American Conference announced Monday that Kent State's Tim DalPorto and Joey Murray were named East Division Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, after a win over Pittsburgh and a sweep of Ball State to open up conference play this past weekend.
DalPorto continued his impressive junior campaign by batting .563 this week. He started the week off with three hits in Kent State's home-opener against Pittsburgh, helping the team to a 7-6 victory. In the series opener with Ball State, DalPorto hit a homerun to tie the game and help the Flashes get some momentum to take the lead. On Saturday, he went 3-for-4 again with a double, RBI and run scored. In the finale, DalPorto helped the team grab the series sweep as he picked up another two hits, walked twice and had two RBI. He now is hitting .388 on the season while starting every game and leads the team with 17 RBI.
Murray put together another dominant performance to help complete the sweep of Ball State on Sunday. The sophomore tied his career-high with 11 strikeouts in 5.1 innings while walking just one batter. Murray gave up just two runs; both came after an error and double play in the inning. He leads the team with 44 strikeouts.
The Golden Flashes will continue play on Tuesday at Purdue in a 6 p.m. game.
