KENT, Ohio – Kent State junior Rachel Stypinski received regular season All-America honors from the National Association of College Gymnastics Coaches for Women (NACGC/W). Stypinski is a second team regular season All-American on both balance beam and floor exercise.
Regular season All-American honors are determined by a gymnast's Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) ranking entering NCAA Regional competition. The top eight gymnasts (including ties) on each event and in the all-around earn first team honors, while the next eight are named to the second team.
Stypinski is the second Golden Flash to garner regular season All-America honors since the NACGC/W began awarding them in 2013. Marie Case received second team honors on all-around in 2014. She is one of 51 gymnasts to earn regular season All-America status this year and one of only 21 to be recognized for multiple events.
Ranked 10th in the nation in both events, Stypinski has a 9.930 RQS on floor and a 9.925 RQS on beam. She scored a 9.925 or higher five teams for both events this season.
Stypinski closed out the regular season by capturing the all-around, balance beam and uneven bars titles at the Mid-American Conference Championships. Following the meet, she was named MAC Gymnast of the Year for the second consecutive season.
Kent State heads to Morgantown, West Virginia on Saturday, April 1 to compete in the NCAA Morgantown Regional. Competition is slated to start at 4 p.m. with a live video stream
