
Champen’s Personal-Record Highlights Day Two of Northeast Ohio Quad

AKRON, Ohio – Freshman Christian Champen recorded a career-best mark of 5.25m (17' 2.75") to finish tied for first in the pole vault on Saturday, the final day of the Northeast Ohio Quad.
Champen's mark moves him into ninth in the NCAA East Regional standings and ranks third all-time in Kent State history. Champen also competed in the long jump, taking fourth-place at 6.78m (22' 3"). TJ Lawson finished runner-up in the long jump with a personal-best mark of 7.14m (23' 5.25").
Finishing runner-up in the shot put was David Paliscak with a heave of 17.10m (56' 1.25"). Taking seventh and eighth was Walter Petzel and Trevor Detillion with marks of 15.36m (50' 4.75") and 15.04m (49' 4.25"), respectively. Also finishing runner-up in a field event was Reggie Jagers III as his mark of 59.01m (193' 7") earned him second-place. Detillion took third at 54.49m (178' 9").
In the triple jump, Samory Fraga finished fifth with a PR of 14.26m (46' 9.5"), followed by Abdul-Nasser Seidu in seventh at 13.89m (45' 7"). Also securing a fifth-place finish was DJ Ohlson in the high jump at 1.90m (6' 2.75").
In what was his first ever collegiate track meet, Derek Adams finished sixth in the javelin with a mark of 53.48m (175' 5"). Adams doubles at the punter for the Kent State football team.
On the track, Matthew Tobin captured second-place in the 400m dash with a time of 48.25 seconds. In the 100m dash, Brandon Harris crossed the finish line in 10.82 seconds to take fifth.
Dairius Ragland and Richard took third and fourth in the 110m hurdles with times of 14.40 and 14.57, respectively. Dahome also ran in the 400m hurdles, taking third-place with a time of 55.97, just ahead of Mitchell Kubicki who took fourth at 56.07.
In the 800m, Josh Gogan finished ninth at 2:00.76, followed by Bryce Ott in 10th at 2:01.18. Sam Goodman finished 10th in the 1,500m run, crossing the finish line in 4:09.29. Nick Schank ran in the 3,000m, taking fourth-place with a time of 9:22.91.
The 4x400m relay team of Matt Tobin, Mitchell Kubicki, Kole Johnson and Jason Drake captured fourth-place at 3:21. 89.
In the final team standings, Kent State defeated Youngstown State 82-76 but fell to Ashland 88-75 and Akron 119-56.
Kent State will head to Columbus, Ohio next weekend to compete in the Jesse Owens Classic April 21-22.
