Jagers Leads Men at USATF; Thomas-Dodd Wins at Jamaican Championships

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Kent State University had a strong showing this past weekend at the 2017 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships and the 2017 Jamaican Championships.
In Jamaica, Danniel Thomas-Dodd won the shot put and qualified for the World Championships with a throw of 18.80m. She won the event by nearly three meters and cleared the qualifying mark for the World Championships by almost a full meter. The IAAF World Championships will take place in London beginning August 5.
Reggie Jagers III highlighted the weekend at the USATF Championships in the discus throw, continuing his outstanding run of success. The All-American advanced to the finals in the event and finished seventh overall. His mark of 58.65m was second among collegiate athletes.
The performance caps off a fantastic month of June for the senior. Earlier in the month, Jagers finished third at the NCAA National Championship and was in line for an individual title going into the last round of throws. His throw of 62.51m is a Kent State record.
Riak Reese also represented Kent State on the USA stage, competing in the 100m and 200m dash events. On Thursday, Reese claimed 28th overall in the 100m dash at 10.34. On Saturday, Reese clocked in at 20.99 in the 200m dash, good for 22nd place.
Christian Champen and Clark Bookman represented Kent State in the junior events, competing in the pole vault and 3,000m steeplechase, respectively. Bookman finished sixth in his race with a time of 9:43.71, beating out athletes from Florida, Buffalo and New Hampshire.
