
Marrero and Timko Earn Event Victories for No. 20 Gymnastics

MUNCIE, Ind. – Seniors Ali Marrero and Brooke Timko took first on individual events as the No. 20 Kent State gymnastics team fell short in the first road competition of the season, 195.600-193.600, Sunday at Ball State.
Marrero scored a 9.825 on balance beam for an outright individual title, while Timko tied for first on the uneven bars with a 9.825. Junior Sarah Lippowitsch finished right behind Marrero on beam with a personal-best score of 9.800 to tie for second.
The best event of the day for the Golden Flashes (2-1, 1-1 MAC) was floor exercise. Ranked 10th in the country entering the meet, Kent State's floor rotation posted its third straight 49.050. Senior Rachel Stypinski led the way with a 9.875 to tie for second-place. Freshman Abby Fletcher matched her collegiate best (9.850) to tie for fifth and sophomore Sarah McCarty earned her highest collegiate score (9.825) to tie for seventh.
Kent State travels to Washington, D.C. on Sunday, February 4 to compete in a quad meet against Wisconsin-Oshkosh, William & Mary and host George Washington at 1 p.m.
