Stypinski’s Record-Setting Performance Leads Kent State at GW Quad

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Kent State senior Rachel Stypinski tied the school record with a 9.950 on uneven bars and earned a career-best 39.550 to win the all-around during Sunday's quad meet at the Charles E. Smith Center.
The Golden Flashes (4-2) earned a team score of 195.325 to finish second behind host No. 25 George Washington (196.525). William & Mary finished third with a 193.225, followed by Wisconsin-Oshkosh (190.975).
Kent State had its strongest performance on uneven bars with a 49.250, which was first among competing teams. The Flashes earned a 48.650 on vault, a 48.325 on balance beam, and a 49.100 on floor exercise.
Stypinski took first place on uneven bars (9.950) and balance beam (9.925), second on floor exercise (9.900), and tied for sixth on vault (9.775). She has scored a 9.950 or higher 10 times in her collegiate career.
Seniors Ali Marrero, Brooke Timko, Michaela Romito, and junior Dara Williams all finished within the top ten on bars. Marrero tied for second with a score of 9.875, her second-highest score this season for the event. Timko tied for fifth place (9.825), while Romito and Williams tied for seventh with a score of 9.800.
Freshman Abby Fletcher led Kent State on vault with a 9.800, her highest collegiate vault score. Fletcher also tied for third place on floor exercise (9.875). Junior Kennedy Plude tied for seventh place on balance beam (9.725).
Kent State travels to Kalamazoo, Michigan on Sunday, February 11 at 1 p.m. to compete against the Western Michigan Broncos.
