Kent State's 2018 football staff was recently completed with the hiring of Will Windham as inside linebackers coach and Jeff Sobol as head football sports performance coach.
Windham most recently served as defensive quality control coach at Georgia. This past season, the Bulldogs won an SEC title and reached the College Football Playoff national championship game. Prior to a pair of seasons at Georgia, he was the defensive line coach at Davidson. Windham also served as a graduate assistant at Penn State and his alma mater, Mississippi State.
"Will's a man of great character with a personality that fits our brand of football," Head Coach Sean Lewis said. "We're excited to bring his expertise on defense. Coming from Georgia, he's learned a tremendous amount about creating a championship culture."
Sobol was an assistant strength and conditioning coach for the past two seasons at Syracuse. He was also alongside Lewis at Bowling Green, where he worked with the Falcon baseball and softball teams in addition to football. Sobol began his time in the sports performance field as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, Eastern Illinois, where he was also a three-year starting defensive lineman.
"Our players have loved Jeff's workouts this offseason and enjoy the structure he has established," Lewis said. "I've been around him for six seasons and he has a very specific way for athletes to be trained so they will be ready for the type of system we run.  Right now, he's laying the foundation for the physical and mental aspects of what our players will face throughout the season."
The Kent State coaching staff continues to assemble its incoming 2018 class in preparation for National Signing Day on Wednesday, Feb. 7.
The Golden Flashes begin spring practices in March, culminating with a spring game on Saturday, April 14 at Dix Stadium.
