- The Kent State University men's basketball team makes its second conference road trip of the season, taking on the Miami RedHawks in Millett Hall on Tuesday, January 9th at 7 p.m. The Flashes enter the game off their first conference win of season. Kent State defeated Central Michigan at home on Saturday, January 6th, 85-69. The Flashes shot 60% from the floor in the first half, their highest in a half since shooting 68% in the second half of the season opener against Youngstown State.
- Junior center Adonis De La Rosa had a career night setting personal bests in points (24) and rebounds (14) while shooting 9-13 from the field and 6-9 from the foul line.
- Junior guard Jaylin Walker tied his season-high dropping 26 points against the Chippewas. The Detroit native found his stroke from downtown going 6-9 (67%) after scuffling shooting 5-30 (16%) in the previous three contests.
- Kent State's team defense against the Chippewas led to the offense's third 85 plus point output of the campaign. Kent State forced 16 CMU turnovers which led to 25 points off turnovers. The Flashes superb defense held the opposition's top two scorers to just eight combined points.
Kent State commited just 12 personal fouls for the game and three in first half and held the nation's leading free throw shooting percentage squad to just eight attempts from the line.
- Tuesday's showdown will be the 142nd all-time meeting between the Flashes and RedHawks.The RedHawks lead the series 90-51, however Kent State has won four of the last six. Miami has historically has a decisive advantage at home with a 52-15 record.
- Kent State ranks fifth in the MAC in scoring defense (72.3) and in conference only games is averaging 73.0 ppg which is also fifth in the league. The Golden Flashes are also the third best free throw shooting team in the conference at 73.1%.
