CLEVELAND, Ohio – Kent State senior Jessica Apelt was named the Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week following the Flashes' 3-2 double-overtime victory over Longwood Sunday afternoon, as announced by the conference Tuesday afternoon. Apelt exploded offensively, notching 2 goals and recording the assist on the game-winner against the Lancers.
The Hilliard, Ohio native scored the first goal of the contest off a long pass from outside the shooting circle to give the Flashes a 1-0 lead in the first half. She followed with Kent State's second goal in regulation to regain the lead, 2-1 in the second half, collecting the ball in front of the net following a penalty corner and skipping it past the Longwood goalkeeper. Apelt continued to shine in the Kent State attack, picking up the assist on the game-winning goal in the 86th minute of play.
On the season, Apelt has tallied 4 goals (second on the team), totaling 9 points and 599 minutes.
Up next, Kent State will host Central Michigan at Murphy-Mellis Field on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 11:00 a.m.
