CLEVELAND - Kent State freshman placekicker Matthew Trickett (Cleveland, Ohio) was named Mid-American Conference East Division Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday. Saturday against Ohio, Trickett became the first Golden Flashes' kicker to go 4-for-4 on field goal attempts in a game since 2014.
"He expects to win and knows what it takes to win," Head Coach Sean Lewis said of Trickett. "He's had that approach since he showed up on day one. He's as even-keeled as anyone I've seen. I'm glad we kept a local kid home. It was a great job by our staff evaluating him and knowing he was the right fit."
On the final play of Saturday's first half at Dix Stadium, Trickett nailed a career-high 49-yard field goal. He made three more field goals in the second half, improving to 9-for-10 on the season. The St. Ignatius graduate is also 18-for-18 on extra-point attempts.
Since the third week of the season, Trickett has also taken on the team's punting duties. Each of his last four punts have gone 40 yards or further. He has placed six of his 22 punts inside the 20.
Kent State returns to action Saturday visiting Miami with a 2:30 p.m. kickoff at Yager Stadium
