UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Kent State sophomore Jake Ferri (Billerica, Mass.) earned a victory he won't soon forget Sunday afternoon at Penn State's Rec Hall. In front of a sellout crowd of 6,496 fans, Ferri defeated Devin Schnupp 12-8, before the No. 1 Nittany Lions went on to win the next nine matches in a 52-3 victory.
Ferri trailed 4-2 after the opening period, but scored a pair of takedowns in the second period. After a Schnupp stayed within striking distance with a pair of escapes in the third, Ferri converted a low double leg takedown and secured riding time.
"Jake did a great job of keeping the pressure on his opponent in the second and third period," Head Coach Jim Andrassy said. "He overcame a hostile environment to get the biggest win of his career."
NCAA champions in Penn State's lineup accounted for four of the team's seven pins.
The Flashes return to action Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Navy Classic.
