
Flashes Among 16 Teams at Saturday's Navy Classic

Kent State will wrestle in its first team-scored tournament of the season Saturday at the 41st annual Navy Classic. The Golden Flashes will be among 16 teams competing inside Wesley Brown Field House in Annapolis, Maryland.
Seventeen Flashes are expected be in action, beginning with the preliminary rounds at 10 a.m. The semifinals are slated for 2:30 p.m., followed by the finals at 5 p.m.Â

The field includes 12 ranked wrestlers with at least one ranked individual at six weight classes. At least seven weight classes will have a new champion crowned.Â

- Sophomore Andrew McNally (184) was named Mid-American Conference Wrestler of the Week on Nov. 7, after winning a Clarion Open title and going 8-0 in his opening weekend with seven bonus-point victories.
- Senior Isaac Bast (165) and sophomore Dylan Barreiro (174) also won titles at the Clarion Open on Nov. 3.
- The Flashes are No. 24 in InterMat's latest tournament rankings
- Kyle Conel is No. 2 in numerous national polls at 197
- The NWCA honored Kent State for having the second highest grade point average in the nation last season at 3.497, trailing only Harvard.
Last Season & History
Kent State has competed in the Navy Classic in each of the previous six seasons and last won the event in 2012.
Host Navy won the team title last season, but a different team has captured the crown in each of the past six seasons.
Last season, Kent State finished ninth of 17 teams at the Navy Classic, with four Flashes finishing in the top five spots.
