Kats and Culver Named to United Soccer Coaches All-Region Teams

KENT, Ohio – For the second straight year both sophomore Vital Kats and senior Paige Culver were named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Midwest Region Teams, the association announced Tuesday. Kats was named to the first team, while Culver landed on the third team.
Kats led the Golden Flashes with 25 points (8g, 9a) which ranked fourth most in the Mid-American Conference and ranks fifth for a single season in school history. Her six-point (2g, 2a) performance against Northern Illinois tied for the second most in a match in program history. She also put up a five-point (2g, 1a) outburst at Miami. The Toronto, Ontario native's nine assists 22nd nationally and is tied for second amongst conference leaders. She was recognized as a First Team All-MAC member this season. Kats makes her second appearance on an All-Midwest Region Team after being named to the second team last year as a freshman.
Culver made an all-region team for the second straight year after appearing on the All-Midwest Region First Team last season. The Oakville, Ontario native has been a mark of consistency over the last four seasons and started all 80 games of her career, which is second most in school history. This season, she led the team with 1,863 minutes played and scored six points with two goals and two assists. The Oakville, Ontario native was recognized as a MAC Herman Trophy Award Watchlist member and a Senior CLASS Award Candidate this year as well as being named to the All-MAC First Team. Culver ends her career as one of the most decorated players in program history and was named a Third Team All-American and MAC Defensive Player of the Year in 2017.
The Golden Flashes placed at least two players on all-region teams for the fourth consecutive year after having one in the first 18 seasons since the program's inception in 1997.
Kent State finished the year with its eighth consecutive 10-win season and is the only MAC team to accomplish that mark.
