Kanavas, Mamarella Honored for Weekend Performances

KSU seniors combined for 13-26, 12-RBI series
Kent State seniors Nick Kanavas and Mason Mamarella were honored Tuesday, Feb. 27 for their breakout offensive performances in a three-game weekend sweep of the Southern Athletic Fields Dirt Classic in Tennessee.
Kanavas – who went 8-16 with four runs batted in and a pair of steals – was named the College Sports Madness Mid-American Baseball Player of the Week. The veteran totaled nine bases and played errorless defense for the Golden Flashes. He has started the season hitting .400 with six RBIs and three stolen bases.
Mamarella unloaded six runs batted in Friday night against Belmont and promptly added two more as the weekend progressed to earn the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week. He also delivered three sacrifice flies and swiped two bases for a KSU club which outscored the opposition, 34-8 on the weekend. Mamarella is hitting .318 through six games and leads the Golden Flashes with four steals.
KSU is back in action this weekend for a three-game series at Winthrop Ballpark against the Eagles.
