Gymnastics Hosts George Washington and Temple Friday for Senior Night

KENT, Ohio – Kent State will honor its 2018 gymnastics seniors on Friday night at the M.A.C. Center when it closes out the regular season against No. 18 George Washington and Temple at 7 p.m.Â
The Golden Flashes (6-7, 3-3 MAC) are No. 35 in the country and second in the Mid-American Conference with a RQS of 195.600. The Flashes' all-around average of 195.206 is ranked first in the MAC. Kent State is No. 22 in the nation on uneven bars (49.165) and No. 26 on floor exercise (49.145) and leads the conference in both events. On beam, the Golden Flashes are third in the MAC with a RQS of 48.735.
CELEBRATING 2018 SENIOR NIGHT
Kent State with honor seniors Ali Marrero, Michaela Romito, Rachel Stypinski and Brooke Timko, as well as junior Alyssa Quinlan following the meet. These young ladies have helped the Golden Flashes to MAC regular season championships and NCAA Regional appearances in 2014, 2016 and 2017, as well as a MAC Championship crown in 2015.
FLASHES IN THE RANKINGS
Senior Rachel Stypinski is 15th in the nation with an all-around RQS of 39.450. The senior's best event is balance beam, where she ranks eighth (9.915). Stypinski is 15th in the nation on bars (9.905), and 21st on floor (9.900).
Seniors Brooke Timko, Ali Marrero and Michaela Romito are key leaders in the Kent State bar rotation. Timko is ranked seventh in the MAC with a RQS of 9.840, while Marrero is eighth with a 9.835. Romito has an RQS of 9.805.
Freshman Abby Fletcher is ranked sixth in the MAC on floor with a RQS of 9.865. Fletcher also holds the third-best average on the event with a 9.856. The freshman is also ranked eighth on vault (9.795).Â
Freshman Nasha Manitkul-Davis is ranked ninth on floor with a RQS of 9.835, while junior Alyssa Quinlan holds the ninth-best average in the MAC with a 9.783.
LAST TIME OUT
The Golden Flashes defeated MAC opponent Bowling Green, 196.625-195.400, on Friday Night. Kent State posted its highest score since March 8, 2015 (196.800) and the best score by any team in the MAC this season. The Flashes also scored season-highs on bars (49.275) and floor (49.425), while tying the season-best beam score (49.025). Kent State posted its second-best team score on vault with a 48.900.
Stypinski posted her career-high all-around score of 39.575, which is the third-best in program history, as well as the highest in the MAC this season. The senior won two of the four events, including bars and floor, scoring a 9.925 on both events. She also finished second on vault (9.825) and beam (9.900).
Sophomore Sarah McCarty and freshman Abby Fletcher tied for second place on vault with a career-high 9.825. Freshman Sydney Chapman took fifth place with a 9.750.
Junior Kennedy Plude started the beam rotation by sticking her landing, and posting a 9.850 to take third place. Junior Sarah Lippowitsch tied her career-best score for fourth place (9.800), while Fletcher posted her career-high tying (9.775) for sixth.
On bars, senior Michaela Romito scored her career-best with a 9.850 and shared second place senior with Brooke Timko. Senior Ali Marrero and Lippowitsch tied for fourth place with a 9.825.
Three Flashes scored personal-bests on floor. Fletcher tied for first place with Stypinski, posting a career-high 9.925. Freshman Nasha Manitkul-Davis matched her career-high 9.900 to tie for third place. McCarty also dropped a new career-best of 9.875, taking fifth place.
SCOUTING GEORGE WASHINGTON
The Colonials (17-6) are No. 18 in the country with a RQS of 196.460. George Washington's best event is vault, where it ranks 10th in the nation (49.200). The Colonials are also 12th on beam (49.195) and 13th on floor (49.275). In its last competition, George Washington took first in a tri-meet against Pittsburgh and West Virginia, posting a season-best 196.875.
Camille Drouin-Allaire is the top all-around competitor for the Colonials ranking 12th in the country with a RQS of 39.460. Drouin-Allaire's best event is vault, where she ranks eighth (9.910). She is also tied for 21st on floor (9.900).
Jillian Winstanley is 22nd in the country with a RQS of 39.405. Winstanley is also 18th in the country on vault with a RQS of 9.885. In the EAGL, Winstanley is third on beam (9.880), while Elizabeth Pfeiler is fourth (9.870).
SCOUTING TEMPLE
The Owls (15-8) are ranked 44th in the nation with a RQS of 194.875. In its last meet, Temple finished second at a quad meet with a season-high of 196.050.
The best event for the Owls is floor, where they ranks 41st in the country with a RQS of 48.980. Jaylene Everett and Tori Edwards are tied for first in the ECAC on the event with a 9.845.
Sahara Gipson is first with a 9.825 RQS, Everett is ranked second (9.810), and Edwards is fifth (9.755).
SERIES HISTORY
Kent State is 11-6 all-time vs. George Washington with the latest loss coming earlier this season. The Golden Flashes competed against the Colonials in a quad meet, where it lost to George Washington, 196.525-195.325.
Kent State is 3-2 all-time vs. Temple. In its last meeting, the Flashes beat the Owls, 195.150-188.450, in Jan. 2016.

Kent State will head to Mt. Pleasant, Michigan for the 2018 MAC Championships on Saturday, March 24. Competition is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
