Stypinski Leads Flashes at Masters Classic

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Kent State gymnastics team earned a team score of 194.700 to finish fourth behind No. 2 UCLA (197.500), No. 16 Nebraska (197.175) and No. 23 Iowa State (195.575) at the Masters Classic on Sunday, March 4.
The best event for the Golden Flashes was floor exercise, where they posted a 49.100 to finish third among the four teams. Senior Rachel Stypinski came in fifth place on floor with a 9.875 to tie with former Olympians Madison Kocian and Kyla Ross. Freshman Abby Fletcher also had a strong performance, tying for ninth with a 9.850. Sophomore Sarah McCarty and freshman Nasha Manitkul-Davis both scored a 9.800, while freshman Gabby Williams posted a career-high 9.750 on the event.
Stypinski took fifth place in the all-around with a 39.250 and was the Flashes' top scorer on each apparatus. The senior came in ninth on uneven bars (9.850), 11th on vault (9.775) and 12th on balance beam (9.750).
On vault, Fletcher tied with Stypinski for 11th-place with a score of 9.775.
Kent State will return to the M.A.C. Center for the final two meets of the regular season beginning with Mid-American Conference opponent Bowling Green at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 9.
