
Gymnastics Hosts Bowling Green Friday Night for ESPN3 Debut

Kent State hosts Mid-American Conference opponent Bowling Green on Friday, March 9 inside the M.A.C Center at 7 p.m. The meet will be broadcast on ESPN3.
The Golden Flashes (5-7, 2-3 MAC) are No. 36 in the nation and second in the MAC with a RQS of 195.315. Kent State is No. 21 in the country on uneven bars (49.100) and No. 26 on floor exercise (49.110) and leads the conference in both events.
KSU ATHLETICS ON ESPN3
Kent State University will broadcasting its first gymnastics meet on ESPN3 this Friday. Mike Elkins will be joined on the call by Kent State Varsity "K" Athletics Hall of Fame member Shannon (Gallagher) Simmons, who will provide color commentary.
Kent State Athletics has broadcast a total of 32 home volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball games that were not selected for national broadcasts during the 2017-18 academic year. These online broadcasts provide significant national exposure of Kent State Athletics, as well as learning opportunities for KSU students who have the opportunity to assist with each aspect of the ESPN3 production.
FLASHES IN THE RANKINGS
Senior Rachel Stypinski is ranked 15th in the nation with an all-around RQS of 39.415. Stypinski's best event is balance beam, where she ranks ninth with a 9.910. The senior is ranked 20th nationally on bars with a 9.890, and 23rd on floor exercise with a 9.895.
Seniors Brooke Timko and Ali Marrero are key performers for Kent State's bar rotation. Timko is ranked sixth in the MAC with a RQS of 9.840, while Marrero is eighth with a 9.825.
On floor exercise, freshman Abby Fletcher is ranked sixth in the MAC with a 9.850. Junior Alyssa Quinlan, sophomore Sarah McCarty and freshman Nasha Manitkul-Davis hold a 9.800 RQS and are tied for 14th.
Fletcher is 10th in the conference on vault with a RQS of 9.775.
LAST TIME OUT
The Golden Flashes finished in fourth place with a team score of 194.700, behind No. 2 UCLA (197.500), No. 16 Nebraska (197.175) and No. 23 Iowa State (195.575) at the Masters Classic on Sunday, March 4 in Lincoln, Nebraska.
The Flashes' best event was floor, where they posted a 49.100. Rachel Stypinski tied for fifth place with a 9.875. Abby Fletcher also had a strong performance, tying for ninth (9.850). Sarah McCarty and Nasha Manitkul-Davis both scored a 9.800, while freshman Gabby Williams posted a career-high 9.750 on the event.
On vault, Fletcher and Stypinski tied for 11th-place with a score of 9.775.
Stypinski took fifth place in the all-around with a 39.200 and was Kent State's top scorer on each event. The senior came in ninth on bars (9.850), 11th on vault (9.775) and 12th on beam (9.750).
SCOUTING BOWLING GREEN
The Falcons (4-12, 2-2 MAC) are No. 40 in the nation and fourth in the MAC with an all-around RQS of 195.120. In its last meet, Bowling Green came in third place in a tri-meet to Illinois, 195.325-196.700, and Lindenwood, 195.325-195.625.
Jovannah East is a top performer for the Falcons. East is in the top-five on three of the four events in the MAC. She is ranked first on vault with a 9.875 RQS, and third on beam (9.855) and floor (9.880).
On balance beam, Laura Mitchell is ranked fourth behind East with a 9.835 RQS, while India McPeak is fifth with a 9.825. Lauren DeMeno is ranked fourth on vault with a 9.805 RQS.
SERIES HISTORY
Kent State is 75-22 all-time vs. Bowling Green. The Golden Flashes have dominated the series since the 2002 MAC Championships, owning a 36-3 record that included 34 consecutive victories.
