Speers Selected as MAC East Player of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Kent State senior infielder Holly Speers has been named Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday (April 24). It is the fourth time Speers has won a weekly conference award this season.
Speers blasted four home runs with 11 RBIs while hitting .778 (7-for-9) and recording a slugging percentage of 2.333 this week. Speers began her big week on Wednesday against Pitt, hitting a pinch hit grand slam in the sixth inning. On Friday against Buffalo, Speers went 1-for-2 with a double, a walk and a run scored in a 10-0, five inning Kent State win. In the second game of the series, Speers had a two-homer game and was 3-for-3 with a walk. She collected three RBIs and scored two runs while the Flashes won 13-1 in five innings. In the series finale, she was 2-for-3 with four RBIs and a home run. Speers also smacked a three RBI double in the fourth inning as Kent State exploded for 11 runs in the frame and won 13-1 in five innings. Speers had 21 total bases on the weekend. She is hitting .495 on the year with 14 home runs and 50 RBIs and ranks in the leads the nation in batting average, on base percentage (.649), slugging percentage (1.038) and walks per game (1.15).
This is the seventh weekly award for Kent State this season. In addition to Speers' four awards, Emily Dobbin and Bailey Brownfield have been named player of the week once and Madi Huck, pitcher of week once.
