Volleyball Completes Competitive Blue-Gold Scrimmage

KENT, Ohio β Blue took the first three sets in a 3-1 (26-24, 25-23, 25-22, 21-25) victory in Kent State's annual Blue and Gold Scrimmage Tuesday evening at the M.A.C. Center.
The exhibition provided the Golden Flashes with an opportunity to put together what they have worked on since preseason camp began last Tuesday in a game-like setting. Following two competitive sets to start the night, a few players swapped squads during the final two sets.
Redshirt freshman Alex Haffner posted a triple-double in her first time in a Kent State uniform. The Kansas State transfer totaled 10 kills, 29 assists and 16 digs. Three Flashes β freshman Kathryn Ellison (13 kills, 15 digs), junior Ashley Makruski (12 kills, 13 digs) and sophomore Natalie Tagala (35 assists, 15 digs) βrecorded double-doubles.
Senior Amy Kober tallied 13 kills to match Ellison for the lead and added a match-high three aces. digs. Freshman Danie Tyson was right behind with 12 kills, while sophomore Ezri Edwards and junior Myla King and freshman Melissa Kolurbasi posted 10 kills each.
Senior Lexi Mantas led the floor defense with 21 digs. Freshman Erin Gardner (19), senior Sam Jones (18) and sophomore Kaeleigh Stang (17) were right behind. Edwards made her presence felt at the net with a match-high six total blocks.
Kent State heads to Findlay for an exhibition contest on Friday at 7 p.m. The Flashes then open the regular season at the North Texas Invitational Aug. 24-25 before returning to the M.A.C. Center for four matches the following week.
