Kent State senior inside linebacker Jim Jones (Tallahassee, Fla.) was named Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week on Monday. Jones led the Golden Flashes with 11 tackles, including a sack Saturday at Illinois.
In the second quarter, Jones recovered a fumble, which led to a Kent State field goal. The Flashes' defense held the Fighting Illini to just three points in the first half. A fourth-and-goal stop late in the game helped Illinois hang on for a 31-24 victory at Memorial Stadium.
"Jim Jones played a really good game," Head Coach Sean Lewis pointed out at Monday's press conference. "He really rose to the occasion."
An All-MAC First team selection in 2017, Jones was tabbed as one of Athlon's Top 50 Underrated players for 2018.
Kent State returns to action Saturday at Dix Stadium, hosting Howard at 3:30 p.m., on Parents & Families Weekend. Order tickets here or call 330-672-2244.
