With the first game in program history three weeks away, the Kent State women's lacrosse team is already making an impact in the classroom, with eight students posting a perfect 4.0 GPA in the fall semester to help the athletic department post a 3.302 term GPA, the highest since fall 2015.
"The addition of a highly academic team, women's lacrosse, helped our department achieve a record-high 10 teams achieving a 3.4 or higher team GPA this fall," said Associate Athletic Director Angie Hull. "With a team composed of 24 freshmen, having eight students achieve a 4.0 in their first term is quite remarkable. With the success they are having academically, we are all excited to see that translate to the playing field."
The fall of 2018 marked the 15th consecutive term of a 3.0+ cumulative department GPA and the 14th consecutive 3.0+ term GPA. Kent State saw 14 teams with both their term and cumulative GPA over 3.0, nine of which had both above 3.4. Forty-eight Golden Flashes achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA and 293 student-athletes recorded above a 3.0 term GPA.
The women's cross country team paced the Flashes in the fall with a 3.776 term GPA, the highest in program history. Kent State softball recorded its second highest fall term GPA in program history, while the women's soccer team posted its 10th consecutive semester of a 3.4 or higher term GPA.
Kent State gymnastics posted a 3.507 term GPA in which 14 student-athletes earned at least a 3.4 term GPA. The women's basketball team placed 64 percent of the team on the Dean's list, while the volleyball team placed 60 percent on the list. Field hockey recorded a 3.440 term GPA, while the women's track and field team earned a 3.400 GPA for the fall semester.
Men's golf recorded its highest team GPA since fall 2015, while women's golf tallied its 10th consecutive semester with a 3.3 team GPA or higher. Eight men's cross country student-athletes were placed on the Dean's list, with three of them posting a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Last May, Kent State honored 70 Golden Flashes with diplomas at the spring commencement.
