Gymnastics Travels to Morgantown for West Virginia Tri

Kent, Ohio – The Kent State gymnastics team will travel to Morgantown, West Virginia to compete in the West Virginia Tri this Sunday, January 27 at 2 p.m. The Golden Flashes will take on West Virginia University and George Washington.
The Flashes are coming off a second place finish at the UIC Quad, where the team won the uneven bars with three individuals finishing in the top five of the event. Senior team captain Dara Williams won the individual vault title with a score of 9.750 and tied for fifth place on bars.
Kent State heads into the 2019 season with a young squad, including eight freshmen. Seven of those eight freshmen competed in their first collegiate meet at UIC. Freshman Riley Danielson led the group and paced the Flashes on beam, earning a top-10 finish in the event.
About George Washington
The Colonials finished the 2018 season ranked 25th in the country, including top-15 rankings in vault, beam and floor. They opened the 2019 season at home in the 12th annual Lindsey Ferris Invitational where they finished second with a score of 193.525. North Carolina won the event, while George Washington defeated Ball State and Cornell. Fifth-year senior Alex Zois claimed the all-around title with a score of 39.050.
About West Virginia
The Mountaineers ranked 27th in the nation at the end of the 2018 season, finishing 17th on vault. They competed in the Cancun Classic to open the 2019 season where they took third place with a score of 194.150. No. 9-ranked Michigan won the meet, Iowa State finished second, while West Virginia defeated Rutgers. Junior Abby Kaufman finished third all-around with a score of 38.375.
Series History
Kent State owns the all-time record against George Washington, 12-6. The squads split two meetings last year. In the most recent meeting, the Flashes beat then No. 18 ranked Colonials 196.325-195.650.
Kent State is 4-22 all-time vs. West Virginia. In the last meeting with the Mountaineers, the Golden Flashes lost, 196.325-194.375.
