The Opponent
Cleveland State (4-6) is coming off a 27-15 home victory over Bloomsburg on Sunday, winning 7-of-10 matches. In the Vikings most recent tournament, sophomore 157-pounder Nico O'Dor and freshman 197-pounder won individual titles at the Lock Haven Classic. Senior 133-pounder Armando Torres won the Clarion Open and placed second at Lock Haven.
McNally Exceeding Expectations
Sophomore 184-pounder Andrew McNally (Uniontown, Ohio) ranks third in the nation in pins with 12. A transfer from Eastern Michigan, McNally also leads the Flashes in wins (26), bonus-point victories (21) and major decisions (8). In the Jan. 24 NCAA Coaches Rankings, McNally is No. 18 at 184. He was named MAC Wrestler of the Week on Dec. 20, after winning a 184-pound title at the Cleveland State Open.
McNally is currently on an eight-match winning streak. He was also named MAC Wrestler of the Week on Nov. 7, after winning a Clarion Open title and going 8-0 in his opening weekend. In Kent State's win over Michigan State, McNally pinned previously undefeated Cameron Caffey, who is No. 17 in the latest Coaches rankings.

- Senior Isaac Bast (165) and sophomore Dylan Barreiro (174) joined McNally with titles at the Clarion Open.
- Bast, the lone active senior on the team, leads the Flashes with 92 career victories.
- Prior to the Buffalo dual, Bast was presented with the Jerry Petrofes Memorial Endowed Scholarship.
- At the South Beach Duals, the Flashes topped a Big Ten opponent (Michigan State) for the first time since 2013.

- Junior Tim Rooney won a 133-pound title at the Cougar Clash on Dec. 2.

- Spencer Berthold (285) and Cory Simpson (141) each placed sixth at the Cleveland State Open after winning four consecutive consolation bracket matches.

- McNally, Bast and Kody Komara (149) all placed fourth at the Navy Classic.
- The NWCA honored Kent State for having the second highest grade point average in the nation last season at 3.497, trailing only Harvard.
- Since 2005-06 (Jim Andrassy's third season), Kent State is 164-102-1 in dual meets.
- Freshman Tim Wallace has won a pair of open tournament crowns, competing unattached at 184. He's reached the finals three of the four tournaments he's competed in.
History vs. Cleveland State
Kent State leads the all-time series with Cleveland State 20-8-1 and has won each of the last 11 meetings. The Northeast Ohio rivals are meeting in Cleveland for the first time since 2011, where the Flashes have won each of last three meetings at Woodling Gym by 20 or more points. Last season, the Flashes won 8-of-10 matches against the Vikings during the Thanksgiving Throwdown in Columbus. Tim Rooney recorded a pin, while Isaac Bast won by major decision.
Last Time Out
Three Golden Flashes earned their first M.A.C. Center victories in Kent State's 28-13 loss to Buffalo on Saturday. Sophomore 174-pounder Kade Byland came away with a first period pin in his first Mid-American Conference dual. Redshirt freshman 149-pounder Kody Komara also earned his first career conference win.
