Golden Flashes Honored with Second Most Scholar-Athletes in the Nation

Louisville, Ky. – The Kent State softball team has been honored by the NFCA (National Fastpitch Coaches Association) with 17 Scholar-Athletes earning recognition for the 2018-19 academic year. The Golden Flashes were second in the nation in total honorees. Kent State finished with a top-20 ranking in the organization's academic team honors, and concluded the academic year with a 3.571 GPA in the classroom, the 16th highest in the nation.
Kent State has finished in the top-30 in 11 of the last 12 years and have also placed in the top-10 five times. The rankings recognize the academic prowess of softball teams across seven membership divisions of the NFCA.
Sydney Anderson, Hunter Brancifort, Bailey Brownfield, Brenna Brownfield, Jen Cader, Maria Cegledy, Chloe Cruz, Kristyn Eckl, Kaitlyn Miller, Grace Saupe, Olivia Sborlini, Katie Synnestvedt, Alexis Taube, Megan Turner, Vanessa Vodan, Breanna Westover and Brooklyn Whitt were named Easton/NFCA All-American Scholar-Athletes.
To qualify for NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete recognition, a student-athlete must earn a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale during the previous academic year.
