Kats’ Two Goals Blasts Flashes Past Rockets

KENT, Ohio – Behind junior Vital Kats' third career multi-goal match and team defense, the Kent State soccer team (4-5-2, 2-1-1 MAC) downed Toledo (3-9-0, 0-4-0 MAC), 3-0, on a cloudy and rainy Sunday afternoon at Dix Stadium. Junior Cameron Shedenhelm set a new career high with four points (1g, 2a) in the match and the Golden Flashes defensive unit earned its third clean sheet of the year.
Kats scored her first goal in the 28th minute as she streaked down the left side and received a pass in stride from Shedenhelm. She scored again in the 53rd minute also on an assist from Shedenhelm to widen the lead to, 2-0. Kats has scored all four of her goals this year during MAC play and has registered a point in each of the last five games.
Shedenhelm got in on the goal scoring act, punching one in from straight on in the 88th minute to cap off KSU's scoring. Her 11 points this year (3g, 5a) leads the team and ties her output from a season ago.
Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Faith O'Neill (4-5-2) racked up her third clean sheet of the year and made three saves. Toledo's Maddison Perrin (3-6-0) made two saves between the pipes.
Toledo was aggressive in the second period and each team finished with 11 shots for the match. Kent State placed five on target compared to Toledo's three. The Rockets held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Golden Flashes are on the road at Buffalo on Thursday, October 10 at 7 p.m. before returning home to Dix Stadium on Sunday, October 13th for a Crystal Clinic Wagon Wheel Challenge match against Akron at 1 p.m.
