Volleyball Drops MAC Tournament Opener in Five Sets

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Freshman Savannah Matthews led all players with 17 kills and 21 digs as Kent State lost to Ohio, 3-2 (14-25, 25-19, 23-25, 25-22, 12-15) in the first round of the Mid-American Conference Volleyball Championship on Thursday afternoon.
The Golden Flashes (14-15) played scrappy defense the entire night, finishing with 92 digs and 13 blocks while holding a Bobcats squad that hit at a .314 clip during two regular season sweeps to a .142 hitting percentage.
Redshirt sophomore Alex Haffner nearly had a triple-double with 45 assists, 13 digs and a career-best eight kills.
Kent State had four three additional players with double-digit digs. Sophomore Kaeleigh Stang tallied 20 digs, sophomore Erin Gardner had 16 and freshman Gracey Jarecke added 15.
Sophomore Danie Tyson matched her season-high with six total blocks, which included a career-best three solos stuffs. Senior Myla King totaled nine kills and five blocks in her final collegiate contest.
